Leading global testing group Exova has appointed Phil Coles as Director of Health Sciences for Europe.
He will lead a Health Sciences division which includes all water testing and pharmaceutical testing laboratories, including seven sites in the UK and Ireland.
He joins the company from his own consulting business advising and helping businesses in the FMCG sector, which included a period in Australia consulting with a leading supplier of chilled and frozen food.
Prior to that he worked as managing director for Brookes Avana, where he was managing director leading commercial, operational and strategic aspects to high street retailers across a wide variety of categories including cake, desserts, ready meals and pastries.
With a background in food technology and a degree in food science, Phil has spent more than 20 years in the chilled and frozen food industry.
His roles have included technical management within one of the largest chilled food factories in the UK for RHM Ltd and commercial management as business unit manager for the supply of chilled pizza to Marks and Spencer.
He also led a £23.5m investment project to design, build and commission a high care dessert and ambient cake factory.
Phil, 42, who lives in Worcestershire, said: “This is an exciting time to be joining Exova as we grow the business, providing solutions for customers globally from our laboratories across the world.
“As an example of Exova’s investment in this sector we will shortly begin the commissioning and validation of our new ICPMS equipment which has been installed in our laboratory in Edinburgh which will provide a new, important service to our pharmaceutical customers and will be available from March 2013.” Exova’s Health Sciences division works in trusted partnership with customers through all stages of the product life cycle and beyond.
