Exova, has opened a new flagship environmental testing laboratory in Hillington, Glasgow, as it looks to increase its asbestos, soil and water testing capabilities.
The new 20,818 sq.ft. laboratory will specialise in various areas of environmental testing, including soil and water quality testing as well as waste and asbestos monitoring services.
This expansion will enable Exova to test waters for rapid legionella in Scotland for the very first time, a demand that is increasing with the frequent additions to health and safety legislation.
The official laboratory unveiling took place on Thursday 16 June during which guests were given a tour of the facility, a presentation by Sean Kerr, managing director of Exova Europe and the opportunity to take part in three technical seminars. The new laboratory was officially opened by Lord Jamie Lindsey, Chairman of UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service).
Douglas Weir, general manager at Exova Hillington, said: “This is a very exciting move for Exova, allowing the business to expand and introduce new services to local and national markets. Exova is at the forefront of environmental analytical services across a diverse range of sectors and facets and the business is continually investing to further enhance our position as a market leader.
“The facility is purpose built and can accommodate a vast quantity of testing, conducted in a modern, clean environment ensuring effective and thorough testing.”
The Exova Hillington laboratory is home to 33 employees, with this figure set to rise by 30 per cent over the next two years. The new laboratory will replace the existing Exova laboratory in Clydebank, with the services transferring across to Hillington.
The majority of work conducted by Exova in the environmental sector is in support of environmental consultancies, local government, developers and other agencies.
The testing allows Exova clients to demonstrate their compliance with regulatory requirements, determine the quality of natural resources and mitigate harmful effects of industrial and other waste on the environment.
