Exova has concluded work on a major Immersion Ultrasonic Testing (IUT) project for oil major, Chevron.

The project, which took place at the Exova laboratories in Spijkenisse, Netherlands, enabled Chevron pipeline welds to be inspected, with test rings being submitted for examination.

The IUT technique has recently been introduced by Exova as part of the Automated Ultrasonic Testing (AUT) validation procedure for girth weld inspection.

The testing service is particularly relevant for discovering smaller defects as a result of the high accuracy robotics and enhanced immersive testing environment, which helps the industry to improve the determination of the Probability Of Detection (POD) as part of any AUT validation.

The world’s largest corrosion conference is taking place in March and Exova is heavily represented throughout the annual event.

One of the highlights is the Exova evening reception, a chance for representatives from the industry to take a break from the rigours of the conference and join like-minded engineers.

The reception will be hosted by Exova’s Oil and Gas president, Sean Kerr at The Grand American Hotel between 6pm and 8pm on Tuesday 13 March. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet members of the Exova Oil and Gas team, as well as global director of corrosion, Dr Chris Fowler.

Representatives from the Oil and Gas industry will have the chance to tour one of the largest independent testing facilities in the UK in February as a refurbished Exova Teesside opens its doors.

Exova, one of the globe’s leading Oil and Gas testing organisations, will be hosting the technical seminar from its North East laboratory offering attendees a full laboratory tour as well as three technical presentations.

The seminar will take place on February 23 and registrations can be made through the Exova website.

An industry expert from global testing group Exova is to give a presentation on the Testing of Deep Sea Pipeline Coatings at a major conference in the New Year.

John Carter, technical expert at Exova, is to address the fourth AMI International Pipeline Coating 2012 Conference.

His talk will touch on issues including the environments encountered by the deep sea pipeline industry during application and laying, and on the sea bed; what is required from testing; and a review of current specifications.

John, a recognised expert in the field, will round off his talk with a summary of suggested new tests.

The event will take place from February 27-29 at the Austria Trend Hotel Savoyen, Vienna, and is designed to bring together industry leaders from the pipeline sector to discuss the latest developments in markets and technology.
