Tear testing measures the force required to tear material in sheet form. A variety of test specimens can be punched from a sheet of material and gripped between fixed and moving cross-heads of a universal testing machine. As the grips are moved apart at a constant rate the specimen is torn apart. The force on the specimen is monitored continuously and used to derive the tear strength.
