Abrasion testing determines the ability of one material, or one part of a material to resist wear due to contact with another material or part. Our abrasion testing instruments used to perform this testing include: Crockmeter, Falling Abrasive Tester, Taber Abrader, Traverse Abrader, Gakushen Head Abrader and Hexbar Flex Abrader.
Our abrasion testing instruments are designed as accelerated wear testers that test the wear resistance of a variety of specimens including paints, coatings, plastic material surface, etc.
Taber Abrasion is a test to determine a plastic's resistance to abrasion. Abrasion can be difficult to compare but weight loss is often evaluated.
The original weight of a test specimen is measured, the test specimen is then placed in the abrasion tester; a load placed on top of the abrader wheel and allowed to spin for a specified number of revolutions. The final weight is taken and the abrasion loss calculated. The load and abrading wheel can be adjusted for softer or harder materials.
