Exova’s Cambridge facility is a comprehensive metallurgical laboratory and the centre of expertise for corrosion evaluations and metallurgical investigations. Our dedicated team of engineers, technologists assist customers with individual requirements from routine material certification to establishing the cause of complex component failures.
Chemical Analysis: utilizing Glow Discharge Spectrometry for analysis of ferrous and non-ferrous materials as well as the ability to employ Quantitative Depth Profiling techniques for coating analysis. Mechanical Testing: Ultimate strength, tensile/yield/ elongation/ reduction of area, ‘r&n’ value determinations, component testing, hardness testing, fastener testing, weld procedures and welder performance qualification testing including bend, tensile, impact resistance as well as metallurgical evaluation of the weld. Metallurgy: Automated image analysis, microstructural evaluations, macrostructure, case depth, grain size, inclusion rating, coating thickness, depth of decarburization, hydrogen embrittlement tests, intergranular corrosion evaluation, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry, hardness testing. Paints and Coatings: equipped to accommodate large volumes of samples to determine resistance to salt spray, humidity, cyclic corrosion, Cass, fluorescent ultraviolet, SO2, noxious gas, gravelometer, elevated temperatures, impact and automotive fluids. Consulting: material and component failure of defect analysis, material grading and specification interpretation, expert witness for litigation, test/process designed programs and recommendations regarding cost savings and process improvements for in-house testing labs.  |
