Exova provides petroleum testing services for naturally occurring petroleum mixtures such as crude oil, condensate, bitumen, and heavy oil. Â |
Overview The data obtained from petroleum testing is used to characteri ze and evaluate oil samples and petroleum products recovered during exploration and production activities. Samples recovered from drilling operations (DST samples) are analyzed to provide geologists and engineers with an initial look at the oil typically present in the reservoir. Petroleum testing to determine gravity, sulphur and viscosity are all important indicators of the oil’s quality. Petroleum production samples are analyzed for revenue calculations and pipeline specifications. The price received for oil is dependent on API gravity and sulphur content. Pipeline specifications set limits for sediment and water content of oil. Reservoir engineers use information from oil analysis for reservoir simulation computer programs used to predict reservoir behaviour and economic recovery limits for primary production.
