Water suppliers use many chemicals to make sure that the water meets specific regulatory requirements. These chemicals are tested to make sure they meet their specifications. Each chemical will have a list of test methods and specifications. Make sure that you know the specifications and methods before starting any testing.  Here is an example of a few regulatory bodies:
