The manufacturer of ammunition and missiles usually takes the responsibility for safety and function only during an initial period of 10-15 years. During this period, the missiles are subjected to certain tests and selected parts are replaced. However, after this period it is the choice of the users to decide about further storage and use or destruction. Since ammunition and missiles in general represents very big economic values, it is of common interest to extend the life time beyond what is guaranteed by the manufacturer.

Within our facility in Sweden, we have a long history of providing life time extension solutions and have more than 25 years of experience working with surveillance testing of propellants, ammunition and missiles. We have developed a surveillance work program including status control and a life time extension program for missiles in order to verify the current status of stored missiles and to qualify the missile for a further storage period of e.g. 5 years. The surveillance work is focused on the rocket motors, the igniter systems and the war head.
