Exova specialises in metallurgical and polymer failure analysis for auto components.

Exova's Materials Testing Technology:
Our metallurgical engineers and technicians utilise leading edge technology for the testing of materials to evaluate the metallographic characteristics of materials. Exova's array of microscopy equipment allows a wide spectrum of techniques to be applied such as stereoscan, reflected light, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, microprobe analysis etc.

Exova’s materials testing laboratories are professionally equipped to accommodate all of our capabilities. Our wide range of automated equipment allows grain size, phase counts, inclusion identification and general microstructure, and fractographic examination to be carried out whether associated with product release or as part of a failure study. Exova's digital photography and rapid image capture produce results that can be electronically transferred in seconds.

Materials Testing: Contract Polymer R&D and Testing
Our experienced staff are experts in synthetic polymer chemistry, plastics process technology, coatings, adhesive formulation and application to undertake product and process development projects in the field of polymer technology.

Please request a quote or contact us to find out how Exova's Materials Testing services can assist you.

Materials Testing: Metallurgical and Polymeric Analysis or Characterisation
In addition to our materials testing, we offer materials analysis. Analytical testing is carried out on both metallic and polymer based products to understand composition, specific additive content or assess the degree of degradation.

Materials Testing: Metallurgical and Polymeric Failure Analysis
Occasionally materials or components fail – they break, change appearance or change other performance characteristics in an undesirable way. Within our materials testing lab, we can uncover reasons for component failure; there can be a problem with raw materials used to produce the part, the design of the part or the manufacturing process.

Through years of experience in materials testing, our experts at Exova have the ability to hypothesize the cause and carry out a set of tests to confirm that hypothesis. Typical methods for materials testing include testing for mechanical characteristics, chemical analysis and fractography followed by analysing the results and reporting the conclusions.

Materials Testing: Metallurgical, Polymeric, Textile, Rubber and Coating Specification Testing
Within the USA and Canada we have a number of materials testing laboratories specialising in exterior, interior and under hood materials testing. We offer a wide range of materials testing services (including impact testing) that are beneficial in determining service life and product safety and liability for our clients.

Common materials testing routinely performed to both domestic and transnational specifications are:
