Health & Safety

Exova LawLabs has a team of dedicated Health & Safety and Environmental Health specialists. The team consists of experienced industrial health & safety practitioners and ex-enforcement officers.

The team is focussed on providing practical advice and assistance on all aspects of Health & Safety. This ranges from conducting and auditing risk assessments, developing health and safety policy documents, providing bespoke and accredited training courses, conducting accident investigations and providing legal advice in the event of enforcement action.

General Risk Assessments
The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require employers to carry out Risk Assessments to measure the risks to employees from the activities they are expected to carry and to reduce and control those risks. Our Health & Safety team has expertise in carrying out risk assessments and offering practical solutions in all areas of health and safety.

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Surveys
In order to comply with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002 (as amended) there is a requirement to carry out a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks associated with hazardous substances connected with work undertaken by their employees. Risk assessments are necessary to evaluate the risks to health and identify how those risks can be controlled and reduced. Typically COSHH assessments will include all chemicals used on the site, including many common food ingredients.

Our advisors will assess the risks associated with various types of chemicals and propose recommendations for reducing and controlling the risks.

Dust Surveys and Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) Systems
Dust, including food dust such as flour, is a hazardous substance within the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations. We work with employers to establish where high peak exposures may occur by atmospheric monitoring and help them provide sufficient control measures. As an on-going service where dust is controlled by an extraction system we provide Local Exhaust Ventilation system monitoring at the statutory 14 month period.
